What is Vinyasa Flow yoga?

Vinyasa Flow is a style of yoga where you move from one pose to the next in time with your breath. The class keeps flowing, so it warms you up and builds strength, balance and focus. No two classes are quite the same.

Most people picture yoga as poses held in silence. Vinyasa is livelier. You breathe in as you reach up and breathe out as you fold forward. Pose by pose, the moves link into a flow, and your mind has less room to wander off to the to-do list.

The pace changes from week to week. Some nights are strong and sweaty. Others are slower, with more time in each pose. Fiona reads the room and adjusts. There is music, a little stillness at the end, and no chanting.

Friday's class runs in a rented room in Wilkinstown, handy if you live in or around Navan. Monday and Thursday run near Athboy, about 15 minutes from Trim. See all our classes for the rest of the week.

What you get from Vinyasa Flow

  • Heat and energy: the flow warms up the whole body.
  • Strength in the legs, arms and core, from moving your own weight.
  • Better balance and coordination, week by week.
  • A clear head. Matching each move to a breath leaves little room for worry.
  • A proper rest at the end, so you leave calm rather than wired.

Is Vinyasa Flow good for beginners?

Yes, if you pick the right class. Monday evening is marked intermediate, so it moves quicker and expects you to know the basic poses. For Thursday or Friday, or if you are brand new, message Fiona first. She will tell you honestly which class suits you.

We recently attended a free yoga event on the Fair Green in Athboy on a beautiful summer evening. Everyone was made so welcome; people of different age, mobility and experience were all genuinely accommodated. Fiona is the warmest teacher and now I have signed up for one of her classes to get back into yoga on a regular basis.

Questions about Vinyasa Flow

What is the difference between Vinyasa and Hatha yoga?

Hatha holds each pose for a few breaths, with rests in between. Vinyasa links the poses into a flow, one breath to one move, so it keeps moving and builds more heat. If you prefer slower yoga, try Hatha and Somatic yoga on Thursday mornings.

Will I sweat in a Vinyasa Flow class?

Probably a little. The flow warms you up, and some weeks are stronger than others. Wear something you can move and sweat in, and bring a bottle of water.

How long is the Early Bird class?

The Thursday Early Bird Yoga Flow starts at 7am and runs for 45 minutes, so it fits before work or the school run.

Where is the Friday class?

Friday's Yoga Flow at 10am runs in a rented room in Wilkinstown, near Navan. Drop-in spaces open once the class has its numbers. Fiona sends the details when you book.

Do I need to be fit or flexible?

No. You do not need to be flexible to do yoga. Getting more mobile, stronger and more flexible can be the reason you come in the first place. Your teacher shows an easier option for each pose.

How do I book a Vinyasa Flow class?

Message Fiona on WhatsApp or text 087 945 3758. Term classes are booked by message and prices are on request. Taster or drop-in available on request.
