Yoga and Pilates for Mullingar, 25 minutes east
Mullingar has plenty of Pilates, much of it on reformer machines, and good yoga teachers too. About 25 minutes east, just outside Athboy, there is a different kind of room: nine mats, no machines, no membership and tea after class.
Where can I do mat Pilates near Mullingar?
About 25 minutes away, at Grá Wellness. Take the N52 north-east through Delvin, then the N51 into Athboy. We run small mat Pilates and yoga classes just outside the town and at the community centre, with no machines, no membership and tea after.
Mullingar has a lot of choice. In a town with that much on the timetable, a room of nine 25 minutes away is a choice, not a compromise. You get the same teacher and the same small group every week.
Lakes, a greenway and a room to match
Mullingar already knows what quiet feels like. Lough Owel and Lough Ennell sit either side of the town, the Royal Canal loops around it, and the Old Rail Trail runs 42 km, flat and off-road, to Athlone.
Our classes aim for the same feeling indoors: slow breathing, steady movement, and a few minutes of stillness at the end.

Hospital shifts and the Dublin train
Regional Hospital Mullingar runs around the clock for a catchment of about 291,000 people. Add the council, the warehouses and the Dublin train, and plenty of Mullingar people work long hours or odd ones. In 2022, 5,962 Westmeath workers travelled an hour or more each way.
That is why the timetable has daytime classes as well as evenings. Evening Yin and Restorative suit anyone who has sat in a car or a train all day. Tuesday and Thursday mornings suit people who work nights.
For women in their forties and fifties, Emily leads our menopause programme, and her Functional Flow for over 40s runs on Tuesday evenings.

I recently attended a morning retreat (3 hours) with Fiona (Grá Wellness) in Killua Castle, The space Fiona created for us, was nourishment for mind, body and soul. As we all lead busy lives this was a perfect timeout Sunday morning. Fiona guided us perfectly throughout the morning including a board walk before brunch, beautiful morning finished off with chats and wholesome food most importantly lovely company
From the second you walk in the door the relaxing smells, sounds, lighting and Fiona’s open welcome envelop you before class even begins. Such a safe, peaceful, personal space to have those couple of hours to relax in each week. As a newbie to Yoga. Yin and restorative yoga have been the best experience I’ve done for me. I’m only sorry I had not discovered it years ago. Thank you Fiona
Mullingar questions, answered
Do you have a studio in Mullingar?
No, we have no Mullingar venue. Our classes run just outside Athboy, about 25 minutes east, and at Athboy Community Centre. Workplace and school sessions can come to Mullingar by arrangement.
Why drive to Athboy when Mullingar has Pilates?
Some people want something smaller. Our classes are mat only, with nine mats at the studio, booked by the term with no membership. If your current class suits you, keep it. If you want a quieter room, try ours.
What is the menopause programme?
A programme led by Emily: strength, mobility and calm through menopause, explained plainly. Message Fiona to hear when the next one starts, or try Functional Flow for over 40s on Tuesday evenings in the meantime.
Can I come if I work shifts?
Yes. There are daytime classes on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, as well as evenings and Saturdays. Tell Fiona your pattern and she will suggest what fits.
Is the Killua day retreat close to Mullingar?
Closer than you might think: about 20 minutes, off the N52 at Clonmellon. Dates are being finalised, so message Fiona to hear first.
Do I need to be fit or flexible?
No. Getting stronger and more flexible is often the reason people come in the first place. Classes can be adapted, and you work at a level that feels comfortable.
