What is a Transition Year yoga programme?

It is a block of yoga and mindfulness sessions for a TY group, run in your school. Students learn simple movement, breathing and ways to switch off. These are skills for exam years, for sport and for busy days, long after Transition Year ends.

Transition Year is a chance to try things students may never meet again in school. A yoga programme gives them time to move, breathe and look after themselves, with no pressure to be good at it. For many it is their first time on a mat, and that is fine.

Yoga mats and blocks set out for a group session

What a block can include

  • Yoga for strength, balance and flexibility
  • Mat Pilates for posture and core strength
  • Breathwork they can use before a match, a test or a busy day
  • Guided relaxation and simple meditation
  • Every student working at their own level

How it works

Three steps from first message to first session.

1Tell us about your group

Your school, the year group, roughly how many students and when you would like to start.

2We plan it together

How many sessions, how long each one runs, the space you have, mats, and what your school needs on vetting and insurance.

3Sessions begin

Students just need clothes they can move in and a bottle of water.

Who runs it?

Fiona Mullen founded Grá Wellness in Athboy in 2024 and runs Little Buddhas, our kids yoga and mindfulness line. She manages the schools programme and is your contact from the first message to the last session.

School sessions usually start when a child comes to one of our classes and a teacher asks us in. This programme makes that easier to arrange.

Where we can come

Schools across Meath and Westmeath. Navan, Kells and Trim are all within half an hour of us in Athboy.

Staff need a breather too. See our corporate wellness sessions for teams, or contact us about something else.

Questions schools ask

What does a Transition Year yoga programme cover?

Yoga, mat Pilates, breathwork and simple relaxation, pitched at teenagers who may never have tried any of them. Each block is planned with the school.

How long is a block, and how long is each session?

That is up to your school. Tell us how many weeks you have and how long a class period runs, and we will plan the block around it.

Do students need any experience or equipment?

No experience is needed, and nobody has to be flexible or sporty. Students wear clothes they can move in and bring water. We agree mats and space with you before the first session.

What about Garda vetting and insurance?

Every school has its own requirements. Tell us what yours needs when you get in touch, and we will go through it with you before any dates are agreed.

Is it only for Transition Year?

No. Sessions can suit other year groups, and Little Buddhas, our kids line, runs yoga for younger children.

How much does a schools programme cost?

Prices are on request, because every school's block is different. Message Fiona with your year group, rough numbers and the weeks you have in mind.

Which schools can you come to?

Schools in Meath and Westmeath, within about half an hour of Athboy. If you are further out, ask anyway.

Ask about a programme for your school

Tell us the school, the year group and roughly when. Fiona will come back to you by text or WhatsApp, usually during contact hours: Mon to Thu 9 to 5, Fri 9 to 1.

  • Planned around your timetable and your space
  • No experience needed, whatever the group
  • One contact from first message to last session

Sending opens WhatsApp with your message written out, so Fiona gets it straight away. No WhatsApp? Text 087 945 3758 instead. We only use your details to reply to you.

Give your TY group a calmer year
