Yoga and Pilates in Athboy: the studio and the community centre
Athboy is home. Classes run at Grá Wellness Studio, a nine-mat room at Fiona's home just outside the town, and at Athboy Community Centre on the Kildalkey Road. Come as you are. The kettle goes on after.
Where are the yoga and Pilates classes in Athboy?
In two rooms. Grá Wellness Studio is a nine-mat room at Fiona's home just outside the town, and she sends directions when you book. Bigger classes use Athboy Community Centre, the old convent on the Kildalkey Road, with space for about fifteen mats.
Which room you are in depends on the class. Fiona tells you when you book, along with the start date and anything to bring. There is no sign outside the studio, so keep her message handy on the first night.
First time? Come a few minutes early. You are not lost, you are early, and Fiona will settle you in. The first class guide covers what to wear and what happens, and the contact page has the hours she answers messages.
The old convent on the Kildalkey Road
Athboy Community Centre is the former Mercy convent. The town took it over when the new school was built, and after a new roof, windows and doors it reopened with a tea party in September 2024.
Tai chi, the Men's Shed and the Women's Group meet there too, and Little Buddhas is on the centre's list of groups. Our bigger classes use it because it fits about fifteen mats.

The Fair Green, Tlachtga and the turn of the year
Athboy's green works hard. The Blue Jean Country Queen Festival has filled it every June bank holiday since 1987. At Halloween the Púca Festival lights the Samhain fire on Tlachtga, the Hill of Ward, two kilometres out the road, and carries it down to the Fair Green.
In between, this summer, Fiona ran a free evening yoga class on the Fair Green, and people of every age and ability came along. When the next free outdoor session is set, it goes up on our park yoga page.
Athboy is a settled town. Among Meath's towns it had the highest average age in the 2022 census, while the new estates fill with people who drive to Navan or the M3. The timetable has room for both: gentle daytime classes, and evening ones after the commute.
Ráth Chairn, the Meath Gaeltacht, is close by, and Fiona has Irish. If you would like a class as Gaeilge, ask her. Our guide to yoga trí Ghaeilge explains more.

Fiona's Restorative Yoga classes are a special experience. She holds a beautiful, safe space with her calming presence, clear guidance, carefully chosen music and spoken word which allows the body to completely relax and the nervous system to settle leaving me feeling totally chill. Love them!
We recently attended a free yoga event on the Fair Green in Athboy on a beautiful summer evening. Everyone was made so welcome; people of different age, mobility and experience were all genuinely accommodated. Fiona is the warmest teacher and now I have signed up for one of her classes to get back into yoga on a regular basis.
I recently attended a morning retreat (3 hours) with Fiona (Grá Wellness) in Killua Castle, The space Fiona created for us, was nourishment for mind, body and soul. As we all lead busy lives this was a perfect timeout Sunday morning. Fiona guided us perfectly throughout the morning including a board walk before brunch, beautiful morning finished off with chats and wholesome food most importantly lovely company
I would highly recommend Grá Wellness run by Fiona, an excellent professional yoga teacher, the best in Co Meath. Fiona creates warm, cozy, welcoming, and serene atmosphere. and is full of positive energy. I have only recently started Yoga, and I am delighted to have found Gra Wellness studio and Fiona.
Athboy questions, answered
Where exactly is the Grá Wellness studio?
Just outside Athboy, at Fiona's home. The address is not published. Fiona sends directions by message when you book, and there is no sign outside, so keep the message handy.
Where is Athboy Community Centre?
It is the old convent on the Kildalkey Road, run by the community. Some of our bigger classes are held there. Fiona tells you which room your class is in when you book.
Do you teach yoga in Irish?
Yes. Fiona has Irish and can teach a class as Gaeilge, or in both languages. Ask her about it for yourself, a group or a school.
Is there kids yoga in Athboy?
Yes. Little Buddhas is our kids yoga and mindfulness line, with groups from toddlers up to teens. Message Fiona to find out which ages are running this term.
Will there be more free classes on the Fair Green?
We hope so. Free outdoor classes are set one at a time, and each one goes up on our events pages first. Message Fiona to hear about the next one.
How far is Killua Castle from Athboy?
About ten minutes out the Clonmellon road. Killua is a private house, so our day retreats there are booked with us, not with the castle.
I live in Athboy and have never done yoga. Where do I start?
With a message. Tell Fiona what you are hoping for and she will suggest a class. You do not need to be flexible or fit, and a taster or drop-in is available on request.
