Restorative yoga in Meath: two hours of real rest
Gentle poses held on bolsters and blankets, calm music and a lot of stillness. Once a month on a Friday evening, from 7 to 9pm. The class people book as a treat.
What is restorative yoga?
Restorative yoga is a very gentle style built around rest. Bolsters, blankets and blocks hold your body in a few easy poses, so your muscles do not have to work. It gives the body time to recover and helps stress ease away.
A restorative evening moves very little. You spend long stretches of time in a handful of poses. Each one is set up with care, so nothing has to hold on. Then you stay there, and you breathe.
Fiona guides the evening with calm music and her voice. There is time to settle at the start and time to come back slowly at the end, so nobody is rushed out the door.
It makes for a different kind of Friday night. Trim is about 15 minutes away and Navan about 20. Other slow classes run during the week too: see all our classes.
What you get from restorative yoga
- Two hours where nothing is asked of you.
- Deep rest for a tired body and a busy mind.
- Gentle opening in the chest, hips and back, fully supported.
- Calm music and Fiona's voice to guide you.
- A slower start to the weekend.
Is restorative yoga good for beginners?
Yes. It may be the easiest yoga class there is to start with. There are no hard poses and nothing to keep up with. If you can lie down and breathe, you can do it. Just tell Fiona about any injury before you come.

Come a few minutes early. The poses take a little setting up, and Fiona will help you get comfortable. She confirms the venue and sends directions when you book.
Bolsters, blankets and blocks do the work in restorative yoga. Bring a mat if you have one, and a blanket if you like your own. Fiona will tell you what else to bring when you book.
Barely moving. Long, still holds, soft music and quiet.
Warm, soft layers and socks. You cool down when you lie still for a long time.

Fiona's Restorative Yoga classes are a special experience. She holds a beautiful, safe space with her calming presence, clear guidance, carefully chosen music and spoken word which allows the body to completely relax and the nervous system to settle leaving me feeling totally chill. Love them!
From the second you walk in the door the relaxing smells, sounds, lighting and Fiona’s open welcome envelop you before class even begins. Such a safe, peaceful, personal space to have those couple of hours to relax in each week. As a newbie to Yoga. Yin and restorative yoga have been the best experience I’ve done for me. I’m only sorry I had not discovered it years ago. Thank you Fiona
I have only recently started Yoga and I am delighted to have found Gra Wellness studio and Fiona. She is knowledgeable and attentive and has a wonderful energy, her enthusiasm is contagious. Her studio is a beautiful peaceful space with an outdoor area which is a wonderful addition. I love the variety of classes from slow, restorative sessions to more challenging levels.
Questions about restorative yoga
How is restorative yoga different from Yin?
Both are slow and both hold poses for a long time. Yin adds a gentle stretch and asks you to stay with it. Restorative takes the stretch away: the props hold you so you can rest. Yin runs on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm.
What should I bring to a restorative class?
Warm, soft clothes and socks. Bring a mat and a blanket if you have them. Fiona will tell you when you book if you need anything else.
What if I fall asleep?
That is fine. Some people drift off in the long holds. Fiona will bring everyone back gently at the end.
Can I come if I have an injury?
Please get in touch before booking and tell Fiona about anything that may affect you. Depending on your situation, you may need guidance or clearance from an appropriate healthcare professional before taking part.
Why is it two hours long?
Letting go takes time. A longer evening means you are not rushed from pose to pose, and there is room to settle at the start and come back slowly at the end.
How often does it run?
Once a month, on a Friday evening from 7 to 9pm. Places are limited, so message Fiona or book through the monthly workshop.
