What is gentle yoga?

Gentle yoga is a slow, soothing style of yoga. You move through simple poses at an easy pace and spend time on deep breathing. It is open to all levels and helps you relax, loosen up and let go of stress.

There is no rushing and nothing fancy. The poses are simple, and each one has an easier version. You work at a level that feels right for you, which is the rule in every class at Grá Wellness.

People come for all sorts of reasons. Some have never done yoga. Some have not moved much in years. Some just want a calm Tuesday morning, and a cup of tea after.

Our students drive in from all over. Athboy is on the doorstep, and people already come from Delvin, about 12 minutes away, and from Kells. You can see every class and time on the classes page.

What you get from gentle yoga

  • An easy way in, with no pressure to keep up.
  • More ease in the hips, back and shoulders.
  • Better balance, which matters more with every birthday.
  • Slow breathing you can use at home when life gets busy.
  • A calm Tuesday morning, and a cup of tea after class.

Is gentle yoga good for complete beginners?

Yes. The Tuesday class is for beginners and improvers, so it is made for people who are new. You do not need to be flexible, fit or experienced. Emily explains and shows each pose, and nobody expects you to know the names of anything.

Who teaches gentle yoga

Emily Stockley, yoga and Pilates teacher at Grá Wellness
Emily StockleyMovement teacher

Emily Stockley teaches the Tuesday morning class. She grew up in Newfoundland, Canada, learning music from her mum and sport from her dad. Years as a high-octane athlete left her tense, and a voice teacher suggested yoga. She has been a student of movement ever since.

In class she builds the basics slowly, and she hopes you leave curious about what your body can do. Emily moved to Ireland in July 2026 and now calls Co. Meath home.

I have enjoyed Fiona's class over the past 2 years. She brings a mix of gentle flow, stretching and relaxation time to her clases and varies this weekly. She is mindful of making the room space welcoming and calm for her clients and each person is made comfortable and invited to participate at their own pace and level of flexibility.

Questions about gentle yoga

Am I too old to start yoga?

No. People start yoga at every age. Gentle yoga moves slowly and every pose has an easier version. If you have a health condition or an injury, message Fiona before you book, and check with an appropriate healthcare professional if you need to.

Do you run chair yoga?

Not at the moment. If getting down to the floor is hard for you, tell Fiona before you book. She will talk you through what the class involves and what might work for you.

What is the difference between gentle yoga and restorative yoga?

Gentle yoga keeps you moving, slowly. Restorative yoga hardly moves at all: you rest in a few poses with lots of support. Restorative runs once a month, on a Friday evening from 7 to 9pm.

Do I need to be flexible?

No. You do not need to be flexible to do yoga. Getting more mobile and flexible is often the reason people come.

What if I can't do a pose?

Then you do an easier version, or you rest. Nobody is watching you and nobody minds. Moving at your own level is the whole point of the class.
