Yoga and Pilates for Kildalkey, the closest village to the studio
Kildalkey has no class of its own, but you do not have to go far. The studio is under ten minutes up the Athboy road, and people from the village already come to class.
Where is the nearest yoga class to Kildalkey?
Under ten minutes away. The studio sits just outside Athboy, about 5 or 6 km up the Athboy road, so Kildalkey is the closest village to it. Small yoga and mat Pilates classes run every day of the week, and nobody expects you to know what you are doing.
Fiona sends directions when you book, so you will not be driving the back roads looking for a sign. There is not one.
A hurling village
Kildalkey GAA plays hurling and camogie and nothing else, at Fr. Plunkett Park. In 2023 the club won the senior, intermediate and junior titles, from about 80 adult players.
Hurling asks a lot of hips, hamstrings and backs. Mat Pilates builds strength and control underneath, and Yin gives tight muscles the long, slow stretch they rarely get. Both fit well in the off-season.

A young village with nowhere to walk
Kildalkey grew fast from the late 1990s. Families filled the estates behind the main road, and the new national school opened in 2018 with a PE hall.
What the village lacks is somewhere to walk. An older county plan said it plainly: Kildalkey is "lacking in safe walking and cycling networks", and its open space comes down to the hurling field and the area behind the school.
So find your green space elsewhere. The Social Walk and Run Club meets on Sunday mornings and is free, and the day retreats at Killua Castle are about 15 minutes away.

We recently attended a free yoga event on the Fair Green in Athboy on a beautiful summer evening. Everyone was made so welcome; people of different age, mobility and experience were all genuinely accommodated. Fiona is the warmest teacher and now I have signed up for one of her classes to get back into yoga on a regular basis.
I would highly recommend Grá Wellness run by Fiona, an excellent professional yoga teacher, the best in Co Meath. Fiona creates warm, cozy, welcoming, and serene atmosphere. and is full of positive energy. I have only recently started Yoga, and I am delighted to have found Gra Wellness studio and Fiona.
Grá Wellness is an idyllic retreat ideal for both indoor and outdoor yoga classes. The studio is a sanctuary that offers relaxation as soon as you walk through the door and Fiona's friendly greeting makes everyone, male and female, welcome. Fiona is amazing. The best yoga instructor I have ever had - her personality makes the classes. She is attentive, reassuring and her positive energy is contagious.
I love my weekly yoga with Fiona. She guides us brilliantly and it is the hour of the week where you can lose yourself in calm and peace. )
Kildalkey questions, answered
Is yoga any good for hurlers?
Yes. Yoga and Pilates work on mobility and strength in the hips, hamstrings and lower back, which hurling asks a lot of. Mat Pilates and Yin are good places to start.
Which class should a beginner try first?
Tell Fiona what you are after. For strength, try Pilates for beginners and improvers. To slow down, try Yin on a Thursday night. Every class can be adapted to your level.
Can you run a session for our club?
Yes. We run group sessions for teams and clubs, built around what the players need. Message Fiona with numbers and the nights you train.
Is there kids yoga near Kildalkey?
Little Buddhas runs kids yoga and mindfulness by age group, and school sessions by arrangement. Ask Fiona which groups have space this term.
Do you do anything outdoors?
Yes. Fiona runs free outdoor classes in the summer, and the Sunday Social Walk and Run Club is free. Keep an eye on the events page for dates.
Is there a class in Kildalkey itself?
No, and we have no venue in the village. The nearest classes are ours, under ten minutes up the Athboy road.
